Uh oh. Brand new tv right out of the box. :-(

Another Christmas tradition. Eggnog with Goldschlager and fresh ground nutmeg. Fresh bread too!

Yesterday we had a snowsquall warning. Early in the morning, we received a quick 15cm dump but very little after that. We got lucky as it squalled all around us while we frequently basked in sunshine. The photo shows what our neighbours received. #photoshopcamera

Getting ideas today for my new drill press. Bit holder, table, and dust collector all in one video. Funny, I’ve never owned a drill press but knew I wanted the used one I bought as soon as I saw it.

If you have a LifeLabs online account, you need to immediately change your password due to a recent ransomware attack Also, insist that they provide identity theft insurance and dark web monitoring for you. Proper backups and data encryption prevent this type of issue.

Whew! We have a campervan secured! Now I can book the train and ferry. I will also fine tune our schedule but we do like to be spontaneous so I won’t get too specific unless I find something we absolutely want to see or do.

Negotiating for a campervan for our NZ trip. I left it a little late but there is till hope. We may have a confirmed unit shortly. I happened to awaken at 1:00 AM and ended up reading and replying to emails from a provider. The time difference is hard to get my head around.

New Zealand Prep
Spent some time setting up our New Zealand trip today. It started with an email from Air NZ saying we needed to call them about a flight change. Turns out Air Canada changed our first flight time creating an impossible connection at LAX. Good service from Rose to reroute us via Houston. I also sent emails to companies about camper van rentals and worked out a rough schedule for our tour. We will land in Auckland (AKL) on a Tuesday and spend a few days in that area before hopping the train to Wellington, ferry to Picton and another train to Christchurch. We will get our camper in Christchurch and spend two weeks on the South Island. Then we will fly back to AKL and on to Vancouver and Toronto to complete our 22 day trip. We are really excited about it.

My favourite movie is Chevy Chase’s _Christmas Vacation _. In one scene, Cousin Eddie is shown emptying the waste tank of his “tenement on wheels”, otherwise known as an RV. He is holding the waste hose while the poop flows into the storm sewer as he announces to the neighbours, “the sh…ter’s full!” My niece sent me this tonight. Perfect!

This evening, we went to an info session about the pumped energy storage facility proposed for our area. Huge turnout with several loudly opposing the project. I see clean energy and a boost to the local economy. The new kidney shaped lake is the heart of the project.

At Christmas time, as kids, we had special stars that would hang in the opening between the kitchen and fireplace room. As we passed by, we would always spin them with our fingers. As an adult, I’ve been lucky enough to find similar stars to hang and spin!

Wow! Down comes the building permit!!!!!

Nuts and Bolts - first batch today. It’s a tradition.

Looks better now!

Today, we visited Legacy Lumber in Mississauga and saw some beautiful urban salvage live edge lumber. They have everything from small offcuts to huge pieces. The boards in the photo are up to 10’ long and one is about 4’ across. We bought small pieces and a little epoxy too.

Our ninth(!) Christmas together and our first tree. It needs decorations doesn’t it.
-
Today, I installed the ceiling in our office. One more step towards completion.

In 2020 and for the third summer in a row, Meaford will be replacing a bridge. We went to the info session and found they hadn’t allowed for access to the gateway to the bike trail during construction. I need to submit my formal comments now… #gettinginvolved

Instead of “Elf on a shelf”, we have “Santas on a shelf” x 2. They can watch for the naughty one from on high.

I have been using Linux for the past few weeks. Before today, I didn’t see much reason to return to Windows but I did some stuff that caused grief as I attempted to log on today. Duck Duck Go helped me get around the issue but I do need to better understand what I’m doing.

Very special day as we passed our final building inspection today! I even discussed my plans to build a gazebo on the patio next summer. The inspector said that wouldn’t be a problem. Timber framing here I come.

Hohoho the gang’s all here getting ready for Christmas. Now they will wander off to various spots around the house. #photoshopcamera

The storm rolled in as predicted: strong wind and freezing rain. We watched it approach over the valley and soon our east windows were glazed. The birds are huddling on the downwind side of trees. This woodpecker clung motionless for half an hour before taking off during a lull.

Winter is ready to rear it’s head again - ice and snow predicted for tomorrow. Hopefully it won’t be too deep by the end of the day. I’d love to get a few more things under cover.

How do you move a shed? Why, you drive inside and push it. A spotter helps because one is quite blind while “driving” a building! The shed was for tools and materials during our house build and will now store firewood for our maple operation.
