Picking up the lumber today again took me into Mennonite country. The snow caught everyone in different ways. The sawyer still has crops in the field and has completed no plowing. He and his hired man are trying to complete a storage building before winter gets worse. They have yet to start the siding. He said he was lucky to finish cutting my order as the Diesel engine he uses had some water in the fuel and now needs repair. Down the road, a couple were hand-picking and husking corn as the snow was too deep to harvest mechanically. Their horse drawn wagon was pulled up alongside so they could toss the cobs in. Given the size of the field, they will be lucky to finish by spring if they work on it every day. Lifestyles are choices but whether motor driven or horse powered, some days are tougher than others. I usually have it pretty comfy.
