When life throws you a lemon, you make lemonade. We’ve just about completed our lemonade, but it has certainly been a tough squeeze.

Engine Fault Service Now OK

Frequently through the drive from Drummondville to Riviere du Loup, the engine would run through a cleaning cycle. However, by the time we were just short of our destination, the message switched to a more serious Service Now warning. After contacting the rental company, we took it to the closest Ford dealer. Two hours later, we were able to drive off with the caveat that the erro message would likely reappear. We again contacted the rental company with that information and they told us not to go anywhere. They did give us a few options, none of which were really suitable. The earliest train back to TO would not leave until Wednesday morning at 4:00 AM. No car rental company had a vehicle we could take one way, except maybe a cube van… Eventually, the RV compnany found a replacement vehicle for us and will be driving it to Montreal tomorrow where we will meet them. That means backtracking a few hundred km but at leaast we get to resume our trip. Once we familiarize ourselves with this new RV, we will decide whether or not to proceed to Newfoundland via Labrador (long, isolated route) or via NB and NS (more populated, shorter and less risky). The shorter route involves a 6-7 hour ferry ride. As long as Hurricane Ida doesn’t suddenly speed up the East coast, it shouldn’t impact the sailings until a day or two after we get acorss. The short route gives us more time in Newfoundland, but at the cost of not making the trek through Labrador. Stay tuned!
